BLUFFS -- Jack Dee Barnett, 83, of Bluffs, went to be with his Lord Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at the Jacksonville Skilled Nursing Center after a long extended illness. He was born, Aug. 27, 1933, in Alsey, the son of Robert Greene and Thelma Day Barnett. He married Terrell Jean Lorton, Dec. 26, 1954, in White Hall. She survives in Bluffs. They are the parents of three children, Robert Lynn (Stacy) Barnett, Mark Dee Barnett (deceased), and Kathie Jean (Jay) Bishop all of Springfield; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers, Gary (Arlene) Barnett, Fred (Roberta) Barnett all of Bluffs; and two sisters, Esther (Don) Westermeyer of Bluffs, and Ilene Wright of Jacksonville. He was preceded in death by one son, Mark Dee (surviving wife, Rose Marie) Barnett; one sister, Imogene Schafer; and three brothers, Charles K., Keith, and Harold Barnett. Jack like to hunt, fish, and sing. He started singing at a young age on a little stool beside his mother's piano as she played. He continued singing as an adult becoming the lead singer with the group called ""The Branches"" (John 15:5). The group sang in the Scott County area for about 10 years. He was a member of the Bluffs Baptist Church for some 50 years where he led the congressional singing for most of those years. He was a member of the Bluffs American Legion and a retired plumber. Funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Saturday at the Daws Family Funeral Home in Bluffs with interment in the Hillcrest Cemetery near Bluffs. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Memorials are suggested to the Bluffs American Legion or the Baptist Church. Condolences may be left online at dawsfuneralhome.com.
