J. Bruce Denton
J. Bruce Denton was born on January 12, 1934 and passed away on October 14, 2016. He was raised at the family homestead on Pleasant Ridge, attending and graduating from La Conner Schools. His work life included putting up home antennas, driving a delivery van for a local cleaner, gas station attendant and became a manager of a tire store. After his retirement, Bruce and his wife Darlene, started a lapidary business. Traveling throughout Washington and Oregon to rock and gem shows selling their wares. In his later years he received a lot of joy volunteering at La Conner Flats in Mount Vernon, becoming a member of the "geezers", a group of like-minded friends, in the process. Bruce will be remembered by all for his warm sense of humor, generous spirit, and gentle soul. A natural born storyteller no one who met him got away without hearing at least one of the memories he loved to tell. He always had a large vegetable garden and numerous fruit trees, he enjoyed giving away both to friends and family. An avid lifelong outdoors-man, he loved hunting, fishing and rock hounding. Bruce was a hard working, fun loving man who touched many lives. Bruce was preceded to heaven by his parents, Oscar and Mamie; nine siblings, Dan, Paul, Dave, John, Ann, Mary, Dee Dee, Ginny and Lois. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Darlene, whom he met at a Cook Road Grange dance in 1952; four children, Edward, Tim, Andrea, Kim; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. A memorial will take place on Saturday, October 22, 2016, 1:00 PM, at Pleasant Ridge Cemetery, 17666 Valentine Rd., Mount Vernon, WA 98273. A gathering will follow at the McLean Road Fire Department, 15452 Beaver Marsh Rd., Mount Vernon, WA 98273.
