Irma Baka, age 87, a longtime McCain Street, Brockway, Pa., resident died on Feb. 15, 2017, at Highland View Health Care in Brockway. Born on Dec. 14, 1929, in Frankfurt A/M Germany, she was the daughter of the late Karl and Maria Wagner Wagenknecht. On April 30, 1960 she was married to Thomas E. Baka and he preceded her in death on Jan. 5, 2017. Retired, Irma had been employed at Brockway Glass as a packer from 1959 to 1971. She also served as a school crossing guard, helping kids safely cross at 3rd and Alexander Street for many years. Irma enjoyed playing bingo and her greatest joy in life was spoiling her granddaughter. She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Janet Baka of Brockway; a granddaughter, Stephanie Baka of DuBois; a great-granddaughter, Melody Rose Baka; a sister, Kitty of Frankfurt; two brothers, Peter (Renate) Wagenknecht and Richard Wagenknecht, both of Frankfurt. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband she is also preceded in death by a son, Tommy Baka and a sister, Claire. Calling hours will be on Saturday, Feb. 18 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Carlson-Shugarts Funeral Home Inc. in Brockway. A funeral service will be held at 12 noon also at the funeral home with the Rev. Victor Baxter officiating. Burial will follow in St. Tobias Cemetery.
