Irene Dodge Longtime resident of Tacoma, Washington, passed away peacefully in Manteca, California, on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 at 99 years of age. Born May 9, 1917 to John and Sophie Judge, Irene grew up in Mitchell, South Dakota with her three sisters Florence, Madonna and Viola (all deceased). She graduated from Notre Dame Academy in 1935 and moved to Tacoma in 1937, bravely riding a train across the country with her oldest sister Florence and her three children. It was in Tacoma that she met her husband, Robert Dodge. They had two sons, Douglas and Bruce, of whom she was always tremendously proud. She was preceded in death by her husband Bob in May, 1990, Having a keen eye and expertise for jewelry, china, sliver and crystal, she had a long exceptional career, working well into her eighties, at several local jewelry stores such as Gundersons, Talcotts and Evantons She was an active member of St. Charles Parish's widows club in Tacoma. But more than anything she loved being part of family gatherings enjoying a cold Bud Light and being center of attention. In April, 2014, Irene moved from Tacoma to Manteca to be closer to her son Bruce (Linda), son Douglas (Noretta) lives in Tremonton, Utah. Several nephews and nieces and their children from the Northwest, California, and Maine have been a continuing support group for their Aunt Rene with frequent calls and visits. Irene's family would like to thank the helpful and attentive staff at both The Commons at Union Ranch where she lived and Optimal Hospice Care, who provided caring service in her final days. A memorial service in Tacoma will be held at a later date.
