Irene Jewel Church Feb. 25, 1924 - Oct. 17, 2016 Our dear mother Irene Jewel Church passed away on October 17, 2016. Irene was born in Nogo, Arkansas, to John and Mable McCuin on February 25, 1924. She was one of eight children and was predeceased by her brother Jessie and sisters Annie, Lela, Walsie and Iva. Irene was the wife of the late Cleo Church to whom she was married 67 years until his death in 2007. Irene is survived by her three children: Wanda Dilday (Don), Walsie Jennings (Jack), and Ed Church (Linda). She leaves behind two sisters: Fanny Rackley and Kathleen Carr. She is survived by 7 grandchildren: Rhonda Rodgers, Larry Dilday, Cindy Ketcherside, David Smith, Dennis Church, Paul Church, and Kevin Church. She leaves 15 great grandchildren and 13 great-great grandchildren. Irene always felt she lived a real life American dream. She was born in the Ozark Mountains and lived a subsistence childhood filled with love and hard work. There was no formal education after grade 8. She was married in her teenage years to the love of her life. In the early years of their marriage, Irene and CIeo made many trips from the Ozark Mountains to the San Joaquin Valley to work harvesting crops finally settling in Stockton in 1946. Irene worked at California Cedar, Laural Pottery, and various canneries. In 1967, Irene and Cleo became the owners of Clutch and Brake Xchange and then organized an automotive wholesale parts business, Auto Distributors. She was a lady of great Christian faith and a member of Eastside Missionary Baptist Church in Stockton. Irene was a loyal friend, good mother and grandmother with a wise and gentle heart. We would like to express our gratitude to the team from Vitas Healthcare led by Doreen Carrillo and Dr. Shaukat Shah for their kindness and professional care of our mother. Graveside memorial service will be held at Cherokee Memorial Cemetery, Garden of Trees, Highway 99 and Harney Lane in Lodi, CA on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Vitas Community Connection, 365 Lennon Lane, Suite 140, Walnut Creek, CA 94598.
