Ian Macdonald, age 74, of Harleysville, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, April 16, 2017. He was a cherished soulmate of his wife Patricia, with whom he shared 53 years of marriage. Born September 2, 1942 in Leeds, England but whose heritage and heart was with Scotland. He was the youngest of three children of the late Alfred and Cissy Macdonald. In 1958, at the young age of 16, Ian attended Leith Nautical College as a Cadet. His seamanship schooling continued with the British Merchant Navy achieving rank of Officer Cadet, traveling mostly to the Far East. In 1963, he married his beloved wife Pat. That same year he joined British Airways at Edinburgh Airport. In 1977, with two young children in tow, he and Pat emigrated to Philadelphia. He continued his 40 year career with British Airways, retiring in 2003. Ian was a world traveler, affording his family many wonderful travels together. Ian was a Phillies fan and enjoyed family-time at Bethany Beach, DE. and winters in Florida. He was respected and loved by all that knew him. A kind and gentle man indeed. In addition to his wife Pat, he is survived by his daughter Karen and husband Curt, son Michael and wife Helen; a loving grandad to “his boys” Brandon, Andrew and Cameron and “daddy” to his furry little girl Lily; also survived by his older brother Barrie and wife Joyce, nieces, nephews and extended family in the U.K. and Chile. He was preceded in death by his sister Caroline Russell-King. Funeral services and interment are private.
