Hugo Van den Bussche
October 13, 2016 Rev. Hugo Van den Bussche, OMI, born in Gentbrugge, Belgium on July 16, 1926, died in San Antonio, Texas on October 13, 2016, at the age of 90 years. Fr. Van den Bussche entered his novitiate in Korbeek-Lo in Belgium in 1947 and took his First Vows on September 18, 1948. He professed Final Vows on September 8, 1951. Fr. Van den Bussche was ordained to the priesthood on July 5, 1953, at Gijzegem in Belgium. After his ordination, Fr. Van den Bussche received an obedience to the former Southern Province of United States in 1954 where he began his lifelong missionary service in Texas, Louisiana and Mexico. Parish assignments include San Augustin, Laredo, Tx; Sacred Heart, Falfurrias, Tx; St. Joan of Arc, Weslaco, Tx; Our Lady of Sorrows, Houston, Tx; Our Lady of Guadalupe, New Orleans, Louisiana. As pastor, he served parishes at Sacred Heart of Jesus in Eagle Pass, Tx; Our Lady of Mercy, Mercedes, Tx; Our Lady Queen of the Universe, San Benito, Tx; Our Lady of Guadalupe, Carrizo Springs, Tx. From 1976 to 1981 he served in the Delegation of Mexico. He returned to the United States where he continued his ministerial assignments at Immaculate Conception Parish in Asherton, TX, San Juan de los Lagos in San Antonio, TX and Our Lady of Refuge, Roma, TX. Fr. Van den Bussche loved working with the youth and had a great love for the poor. In 2002, Fr. Van den Bussche retired to Oblate Madonna Residence in San Antonio, Texas. Fr. Van den Bussche is preceded in death by his parents and his sister. In addition to his Oblate family, Fr. Van den Bussche is survived by his siblings: brother, Tony Van den Bussche; sister, Mrs. Lou Van Kets; and nephew, Frank Van den Bussche all from Belgium. Fr. Hugo Van den Bussche will be remembered with respect and esteem by his Oblate brothers and all the people who knew him. FUNERAL SERVICES Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Conception Chapel at 285 Oblate Drive, San Antonio, Texas 78216. A Vigil Prayer Service will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, October 21, 2016 at 10:00 AM.
