Hugh Rosaaen Vero Beach, FL Vero, Beach, FL - Hugh Rosaaen Jr., 88 of Vero Beach, FL passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017 at Indian River Memorial Hospital after a long battle with cancer. Hugh was born in St. Louis, MO, on June 26, 1928 the son of Kathryn and Hugh Rosaaen who instilled in him the qualities of kindness, thoughtfulness, consideration and fair play that guided him throughout his life. He is survived by his sons Marc Rosaaen of Daly City, CA, Ian Christopher Rosaaen of Vero Beach, FL and daughter Mary Kathryn Borck (Peter) of Pacifica, CA as well as his brother, Tom Smith (Amanda) Rosaaen of Vero Beach. Hugh was a 1946 graduate of John Burroughs School in St. Louis where he excelled both academically and on the baseball field as a pitcher throwing a number of no-hitters. He was asked to a tryout by the then St. Louis Browns baseball team. He attended Amherst College where he met his life-long friend and college roommate, Mark Lemp. He was a member of Phi Delta Theta fraternity. He graduated in 1950 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. After graduation, he moved to Northern California where he married Joy Ann Ahrens in 1950 and settled south of San Francisco in Burlingame to begin raising his family. He retired in 1997 from California Sugar and Western Pine Agency having been its President since 1957. He and his wife moved to Vero Beach where he dedicated the remainder of his life to his new community and philanthropy. He was active as a Driver/Coordinator for the Indian River Volunteer Ambulance Squad and a driver for Meals On Wheels. His filled his leisure time with golf, travel, the game of Bridge, Opera, birding and reading. Kind, thoughtful and caring to his family, his friends, his neighbors and his community. "All he ever did was give." There will be no memorial service. Final interment will be at Mohawk, CA near the family cabin later this year. Memorial contributions may be given to the American Cancer Society, John Burroughs School or the charity of one's choice.
