Hugh J. Rolf
Hugh J. Rolf, 84, formerly of Swoyersville, died Monday, April 10, 2017, at the Partridge-Tippett Nursing Facility, Wesley Village Campus, Jenkins Township. Born in Gloversville, N.Y., he was the son of the late Nils Rolf and Irma Rolf-Conway. A graduate of Gloversville High School, he then enlisted in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict for four years and served aboard the USS Smalley. He later attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, NYC. He worked as a maintenance engineer for many years. An accomplished artist, he taught art at Luzerne County Community College, College Misericordia and also held private classes for over 50 years. Hugh was a member of the VFW 396, Wyoming, the Wyoming Valley Art League, Wyoming Valley Poetry Society, Lackawanna Art Council and sang in the Wyoming Valley Barbershop Harmony Chorus. Also preceding him in death was a sister, Dolores Tokarowski. Surviving are his daughter, Yvonne Shales and husband, Andrew, of Phoenixville; granddaughters, Krystina Shales-Wilson, of Chicago, Ill., and Kourtney Shales, of Atlanta, Ga.; great-granddaughter, Isabella Wilson; and companion, Betty Lee Frusciante, of Swoyersville. A blessing service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Metcalfe-Shaver-Kopcza Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming, with the Rev. Father Peter Tomczak. Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, April 21, 2017, at the Metcalfe-Shaver-Kopcza Funeral Home Inc., 504 Wyoming Ave., Wyoming.
