He was born to Marvin and Alma Counts Ledbetter, in Richland, Arkansas on February 21, 1932. Hoy attended Freed-Hardeman College, Wayne State University, and the University of Michigan (Flint). He was known for his keen mind, his quick wit, and his love of classical music, photography and ice cream and Oreos. Hoy was preceded in death by his parents, a sister, Colene Ledbetter, three brothers, Gerald, Larry and Van, as well as his daughter Priscilla, and grandson Jordan Coleman. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Lillian "Jary" Ledbetter, a son and daughter-in-law, Ron and Irene Ledbetter of Davisburg, Michigan, a daughter, Karen Coleman of Ringgold, Georgia, and a son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Pam Ledbetter of Lawrenceville, Georgia.
