In memory of
Howard E. Katz
Howard E. Katz of West Hartford, beloved and devoted husband of Elizabeth (Betty) for 57 years, passed away on April 14, 2017, just two weeks past his long-held goal of living until age 80. He endured his recent illness with grace and fortitude. He is also survived by his loving and devoted children, Nancy Katz Bromley and husband Gregg, Robert Katz and partner Lori Todd, and his cherished grand-daughter Genna Bromley. The son of Benjamin Katz and Genevieve Weiner Katz Becker, Howie was born in Hartford, grew up in Torrington, and graduated from Deerfield Academy and the University of Connecticut. He was commissioned a Lieutenant through ROTC and served in the Air Force. Howie was a computer consultant and businessman. He was an active member of the PROBUS service organization and a volunteer at FIDELCO and Habitat for Humanity. He was an active committee member of Celebrate West Hartford and member of the West Hartford Regents. He was an acomplished woodworker, and his passions included the UCONN Woman's Basketball team, where he attended home games for years with Arnold Goldstein, and a life-long love of golf. Howie and Betty were invited to visit Arnold Palmer, who personally conducted a tour of his home office. Howie will be remembered for his quiet dignity, integrity, patience, and his sense of humor. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 19 at 10 AM at Hartford Sick Benefit Association cemetery, 956 Garden Street in Hartford, with Rabbi David J. Small officiating. Shiva will be held at the family home on Wednesday until 8:00 PM. Memorial donations can be made in Howie's name to the Jimmy V Fund, a charity Howie supported because 100% of the donations go to support cancer research, 14600 Weston Parkway, Cary, NC 27513, www.jimmyv.org , or to a charity of your choice.
