COLEMAN, HOWARD ALEX Starke - Howard Alex Coleman of Starke, Florida passed away at his residence January 10, 2017. He was born August 25, 1918 in Alamo, Georgia to the late Johnnie Coleman and Lollie Cox Coleman. Howard was raised in Georgia but moved to Bradford County in 1945. He proudly served in the United States Army during WWII where he earned a Purple Heart and Good Conduct Medal. Howard later went on to start his own business, Coleman's Cabinet Shop, in Starke. He was a long-time member of Sampson City Church of God. Howard enjoyed crafts as well as his carpentry work, in fact, he built models of his church as well as his birth place. Howard is preceded in death by his wife of 61 years, Gladys Ruth Coleman; and his five brothers and five sisters. Howard is survived by his children, Alton (Marlene) Coleman, Carlene (Bob) Dawkins, Hazel (Gene) Bass, and Sandra (Willard) Crawford all of Starke, FL; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. A Celebration of Howard's Life will be held on Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11:00 am at Sampson City Church of God with Pastor Gene Bass officiating. Interment will follow at Crosby Lake Cemetery where military honors will be rendered. The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 12, 2017 from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at Sampson City Church of God.
