Hilda Dreen Roberts was born on Sept. 25, 1941, in Miller's Point on Lake Iliamna in Alaska. Hilda attended grade school and spent most of her childhood in Pile Bay, Alaska, with her four siblings. Afterwards, she attended King's Garden High School in Seattle, Wash. Following her graduation, Hilda ventured down to Chicago, Ill., where she lived and worked for many years. She returned home to Alaska with her two young daughters in 1970. Soon after her return, she met the love of her life, her soul mate and husband of 25 years, Earl Roberts Sr., whom passed away on Sept. 20, 1997. Since then, Hilda has lived primarily in Anchorage with her daughters and close relatives. She is survived by her two daughters, Brenda Barfield and Bernadine Erickson; her grandchildren, Brittany, Chelsea, Bryan, Shannon, Nicole and Elsa; her great-grandchildren, Cayden, Jocelyn and Abygail; her sister, Maryann Hanak; her brother, Dan O'Hara; and also her maternal cousin, David Victoroff. She is preceded in death by her husband, Earl Roberts Sr.; her son, Earl Roberts Jr.; her sisters, Mable Donaca and Rose Husker; her mother, Aggie Mutang; her father, Thomas O'Hara; and numerous other friends and family members who passed away throughout her lifetime. She passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Anchorage on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2016. Hilda, more commonly known as Nana, loved to spend time with her loved ones as often as possible. She also enjoyed going to bingo with friends and family, listening to Elvis Presley, going on vacation with family, and spending time with her dog and close companion, Freeway, and watching TV. She will be remembered by many as a loving, compassionate and kind hearted soul with a knack for making anyone smile. Although she is now with The Lord, she will forever remain in all of our hearts. A service will be held at Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel, 737 E Street in Anchorage on Saturday, Oct. 15, 2016. Visitation will begin at 2 p.m. with a memorial service to follow at 3 p.m. Afterwards, a Celebration of Life will be held in her memory.
