Hester Claire Gordon ORANGEBURG - Hester Claire Gordon was born to Mary and Tommie Bovain August 8, 1941, in Cameron, South Carolina. She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Rev. Sammie L. Gordon Sr., her son, Sammie L. Gordon Jr., daughter, Sigma L. Gordon, and preceded in death by her son, Sandor L. Gordon, her grandchildren, Simeon Gordon, Dominic King, Sammie L. Gordon III, Tayana Tate and James Gordon, sisters, Alice Bovian, Lelia Mae Hambersham, brothers, Tommie Bovian Jr. and Pearly Bovian (deceased), a special niece, Bernadine Coleman, and daughter-law, Angela (Sandor) Gordon. She received her formal education from St. John's High school in Cameron South Carolina, attend Claflin College and received associate degrees in Book Keeping and Secretarial administration from college in Stanford, Connecticut, and Jasper County STEPS Government Training Center in Jasper County, South Carolina. She received advanced degrees in Business from Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College. She spent a career of working with and assisting the public ranging from Secretary at St. John's school in Cameron, Assistant Director of various programs at Orangeburg, Calhoun, Allendale Bamberg Community Action Agency, Church secretary St. Peter A.M.E. church Cameron, South Carolina, and 51 years as business secretary for Gordon's Shoes and Tax service. She served and lead various organizations to include the Minsters Wives of the A.M.E church, Women's Missionary Society A.M.E. church, and Zimmerman Family Reunion Committees. The Funeral is Scheduled for Saturday, February 18, 2017 at 11:00 AM, at Williams Chapel A.M.E. Church 1198 Glover St., Orangeburg, S.C. 29115. A wake will be held at Williams Chapel from 6:00-7:00 PM on Friday, February 17th at Williams Chapel A.M.E. Church. The Gordons will be receiving visitations at their residence located at 1425 Sunset Street, Orangeburg, S.C.
