Herbert Poling Jr.
6/10/1949 - 10/13/2016 - Mr. Herbert Lester Poling Jr. of Sparta, Michigan, age 67, went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 13, 2016. Herb was born to Herbert Lester Poling Sr. and Verda M. ( Mourer ) Poling on June 10, 1949 and spent his entire life living in Sparta. He served his country during the Vietnam war era (1969-71) as an artillery surveyor specialist with temporary duty in radio repair. After his service was completed Herb resumed his job at Sparta Area Schools in maintenance/custodial work while studying analog/digital electronic repair through DeVry Institute. He retired in 2000 with 33 years of service. Hunting in his younger years, then fishing, moped and bicycle riding with his wife, Wanda, later on were his most enjoyed outdoor activities. Herb loved carpentry and built several homes over the years. He and Wanda worked together four years to build their retirement home. Herb was involved in the deliverance ministry and also evangelistic outreach ministries using his illness and Bible prophecy in letter format to bring the salvation message to the surrounding communities. This is a quote from Herb that he wanted in his obituary: "I believe that at the time of conception when the God of the Christian Bible gives us life, He has a purpose in mind for each of us. No one is a mistake. I had asked that His purpose for giving me life would be fulfilled before my passing. If I have touched your life and made it better in some way, then I believe my purpose was fulfilled." Herb will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by those who knew him. Herb is preceded in death by his parents and brother, David Poling. Herb is survived by his loving wife, Wanda; children, Jay (Marcia) Poling, Jason (Sara) Poling, Jeanette Hanka, Kelly (Justin) Donat, and Brian Gibson; eight grandchildren, Jazmyn, Kyle, Kevin, Nicholas, Sophie, Bethany, Gabby, and Olivia; brothers and sisters, Jerry Poling, Larry (Mary) Poling, Barbara Kelsey, Dale (Joyce) Poling, Donald (Kathy) Poling, and Charles Poling; and many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
