Herbert L. Petit
PETIT Herbert Lisle Jr., 88, passed away peacefully on Wed, Jan 4, 2017. Born Oct 2, 1928 in Lexington, Herb was the son of the late Herbert L. and Viola (Finley) Petit. He and his loving wife, Lucille (Kearney) Petit were married over 65 years. Herb is survived by his wife, sons, Kenny (Barbara), Galveston, TX, Kevin (Amy), Lexington, daughter, Kathleen Ratliff (Tony), Versailles, KY and daughter- in-law Aimee Kate Harris Petit, Lexington. He is survived by grandchildren, Sean, Scott (Meredith), Shannon, Brendan (Lauren), Ryan, Emma and Grace Petit, brother-in-law Jimmy (Mary Ann) Kearney, and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister, Maxine (Sallee), and son, Kearney. Herb graduated from the Lexington Latin School and attended the University of Kentucky, playing basketball as a freshman on the 1947-48 team. Herb retired from First Security Bank after 42 years and part time at Keeneland after 40 years. He was an avid bowler at Southland Bowling Lanes for many years, enjoyed sports as a player, coach, and fan. Herb was an inaugural inductee in the Lexington Catholic High School Hall of Fame. Visitation will be held from 9:30-11am, Mon, Jan 9 at Mary Queen of the Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Funeral Mass following visitation. Burial at Calvary Cemetery.
