Henry A. Fornal
God sent his angels to bring home to heaven, a wonderful man, Henry A. Fornal on Saturday, February 11th, 2017. Born in Meriden, CT, Henry was the son of the late Andrew and Nellie (Korkocz) Fornal. Henry proudly and honorably served his country in the United States Army Air Force during World War II, serving on the USS Saipan during the Asiatic Pacific Theater. After his discharge from the armed forces, Henry traveled as a baseball umpire until settling and umpiring throughout the Capital District. Henry worked as a glazer for Arrow and Spa Glass and Mirror, and later as a security guard for the General Electric Company until his retirement. Henry was a member of the Rotterdam Elks, Melvin Roads American Legion Post 1231, barber and avid golfer. In his spare time, Henry enjoyed tending to his lawn, rose bushes and peonies. He selflessly volunteered many hours with the Elks at the VA Hospital distributing popcorn and ice cream to area veterans. One of his favorite past times was attending Union College hockey games alongside his son, Marty. Henry was predeceased by his sister, Genevieve Fazzino. He leaves behind to treasure his memory his devoted and cherished wife of 59 years, Genevieve M. (Grabicki) Fornal; his devoted daughter, Karen Peterson (Roger) of East Greenbush and his devoted son, Marty Fornal (Debby) of Ballston Spa and his grandson, Lucas Fornal.
