In memory of
Helen Sypula, 82, of East Tawas passed away Thursday morning, Jan. 12, 2017 at Iosco County Medical Care Facility in Tawas Township. Helen was born Dec. 15, 1934 in Detroit to the late Victor and Anna (Perun) Zuroff. She married Leonard Sypula on Aug. 16, 1952 in Detroit and together they raised three children, Jan, David and Daniel. Helen graduated from Henry Ford Community College in June 1971 as a registered nurse. She spent many years as a nurse for Wayne County General Hospital in the OB-GYN Department. Upon retiring and moving to the East Tawas area, Helen continued as a home health and hospice nurse. She enjoyed crocheting and quilting and many family members have received specials gifts they will treasure for the rest of their lives. Helen also enjoyed cooking. Helen is survived by her children, Jan (Ron) Irvin of Livonia, David (Tracy) Sypula of Venice, Fla. and Daniel (Caroline) Sypula of Howell; four grandchildren, Cory, Amy, Sharon and David Alan; and three great grandchildren, Sarah, Keegan and Tristan. In addition to her parents, husband, Leonard, Helen was preceded in death by a great grandson, Caleb. Visitation for Helen will take place 2 to 8 p.m. Monday, Jan. 16 at Buresh Funeral Home, 416 Whittemore St., Tawas City. Funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. (in state 10 a.m.) Tuesday, Jan. 17 at Holy Family Catholic Church, 516 West Lincoln St., East Tawas. Interment will take place at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in the spring. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Holy Family School.
