Helen J. Swanson
Helen J. Swanson, 81, of Quincy, died at 7:05 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, 2016, at Sunset Home. Born Sept. 30, 1935, in Keokuk, Iowa, Helen was a daughter of George L. and Pauline Hillyard Swanson. Helen was a longtime member of Union United Methodist Church, where she was active with the Fidelis Sunday school class and United Methodist Women. She enjoyed listening to books and taking bus trips to Branson, Mo., and loved helping others by delivering Meals on Wheels for many years. Miss Swanson began her career as a telephone operator in 1952 with Northwestern Bell Telephone in Keokuk. She later moved to Quincy and was an operator with Illinois Bell Telephone until 1980, when she moved to Collinsville. Helen moved back to Quincy when she retired in 1990 after 38 years of service. Surviving is a niece, Dorothy Swanson of St. Louis, Mo. Helen was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, George A. Swanson. SERVICES: 1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Zehender Robinson Stormer Cookson Funeral Home with the Rev. Tim Woodard conducting. Burial will be in Downing Cemetery, Downing, Mo.
