Mrs. Helen Wheeler Ryan of Brookdale Chandler Place won her battle with longevity on Good Friday, April 14, 2017. A lifelong Christian, Helen was most recently a member of St. Anne Catholic Church where the funeral mass will be celebrated at 10am on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 with Father Fabio Refosco officiating. The immediate family will gather at Woodridge Memorial Park in Lexington, SC for the burial on Wednesday, April 19, 2017. Helen was born in New Zion, SC on January 6, 1920 to the late Samuel Moode and Ria Dinkins Wheeler. On November 14, 1943, Helen married Paul Vincent Ryan of Fall River, MA. Paul was a veteran of WWII and the Korean Conflict and achieved the rank of Lt. Col. in the US Army Reserves. He also enjoyed a successful career as an insurance executive and a practicing attorney before his death in 1990. They are survived by three children, Marie (Geoff) Bush of Edina, MN, Tim (Joyce) Ryan of Knoxville, TN and Catherine (Joe) Jackson of Rock Hill. Helen was the proud grandmother of Jennifer (Rob) Frisby, Heather (Dale) Trettel, Ellen (Ben) Callet, Matt (Tiffany) Ryan, Lauren (Brandon) Bice, Meghan Rasor and Erin Rasor. There are also beloved great-grandchildren, Ellie, Riley, Olivia, Ava, Chandler, Camryn, Connor, Josie and Ryan. Helen had an outgoing, gregarious personality and sweet disposition, loved visiting with family and friends and volunteering, especially many years at Lesslie Elementary School. Family and friends are welcome to celebrate Helen's long life from 6-7:30pm on Monday, April 17, 2017 at Greene Funeral Home Northwest Chapel, 2133 Ebenezer Rd, Rock Hill and other times at the home of Joe and Cathy Ryan Jackson, 990 BJ Jackson Rd, Rock Hill.
