Helen Slifka Pitoniak
Helen Slifka Pitoniak, 109, of Syracuse, passed away peacefully at Loretto Cunningham with her daughter by her side on March 12, 2017. Helen was born November 28, 1907 to Panko and Anna Slivka. She worked for a number of years as a seamstress for the Samuel Elman Pants Factory in Syracuse. She was a communicant of St. Stephen's Church and the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. She also served as a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Stephen's Church. She was predeceased by her Husband John Pitoniak who died in 1992. Helen is survived by her daughter Karen Anne of Syracuse and several nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, 9:00 AM from the Macko-Vassallo Funeral Home, 1609 W. Genesee St. and 9:30 AM in the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. Helen will be laid to rest in St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, 927 Park Street, Syracuse, 13204 or to Francis House, 108 Michaels Avenue, Syracuse, 13208.
