In memory of
Harvey Lee LOCHHEAD
LOCHHEAD, Harvey Lee (1931-2017) After 85 years of a full and adventurous life, our husband, father, brother, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away with family at his side on Monday evening. Born April 11, 1931 to John and Anna Mae Lochhead, Harvey grew up in Spokane. After Graduating from West Valley High School, Harvey went on to spend his summers working in apple orchards in Central Washington and fighting the blister-rust spread in the Selkirk Mountains of North Idaho. His summer jobs helped support his four years of college at EWU. Before graduating from EWU and enlisting in the Navy and serving two years, Harvey met the love of his life, Dorothy (Hill) Lochhead, during his senior year. They married March 28, 1953 and enjoyed 63 years of love and adventure together. In their years together they traveled often, visiting all 50 states, many by car and trailer, as well as multiple trips to Europe during retirement. Harvey taught math at Shadle Park from 1961-1982. During his time at Shadle, he spent many hours coaching both the track and cross country teams as well as taking numerous groups of students hiking throughout the area as part of his Outdoor Living Class. Harvey was an outdoorsman and an athlete! He enjoyed lifting, hiking, snow skiing, running, biking, golfing, fishing and even roller-blading in his later years. Harvey was a bold follower and believer in Jesus Christ and was an active member of Whitworth Presbyterian Church. During his life he was a member and volunteer for many organizations including Mt. Spokane Ski Patrol, Spokane Mountaineers, Interfaith Hospitality, Stephens Ministry, and in retirement he devoted countless hours to the PET Project, which builds hand-powered transportation vehicles for people unable to walk in third world countries. He leaves behind his loving wife Dorothy, son Scott (Colleen), daughter, Perri (Dennis) Shelley, grandkids Jeff (Ellie), Drew (Annie), Taylor Shelley, and five great-grandchildren. Harvey is preceded in death by his father, mother, and son Russel. A Celebration of Harvey's life will be held at Whitworth Presbyterian Church at 2:00 PM, Friday January 13.
