Harvey James "Jim" Austin Jr.
QUINCY -- Harvey James "Jim" Austin Jr., 82, of Quincy, died at 1:35 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 11, 2016, at Good Samaritan Home. Jim was born Sept. 6, 1934, in Hannibal, Mo., a son of Harvey James Austin Sr. and Lola Mae Whitney Austin. He married Sandy Nooe on May 4, 1957, in Quincy. She survives. Jim served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War, where he played for the Navy baseball team. After his honorable discharge, he went on to play semi-professional baseball. In addition, Jim played fast-pitch softball for many years on various leagues in Quincy. Jim worked for Gardner Denver for 42 years. He was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan his entire life. In addition to his wife, survivors include his twin sister, Harriet Jean (Robert) Keil of Oak Ridge, Tenn.; a nephew, Ted Keil of Murfreesboro, Tenn.; three nieces, Susan Harris, Lori (Jack) Frye and Sandi (Mike) Thaler, all of Oak Ridge; five great-nieces and nephews; and four great-great-nieces and nephews; three sisters-in-law, Maurine (Dick) Cason of Quincy, Brenda McGraw of Hutchinson, Kan., and Vicky Willison of Buhler, Kan.; a brother-in-law, Ki Nooe of Salinas, Calif.; and his devoted cocker spaniel, Jeter. Harvey was preceded in death by his parents. SERVICES: 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 17, at Hansen-Spear Funeral Home, with the Rev. Steve Disseler conducting.
