Harriet A. Stellpflug
Stellpflug, Harriet A. Harriet A. Stellpflug, 89, of New Holstein died peacefully at home on Wednesday, September 28, 2016. She was born on January 13, 1927 in Kewaskum, WI, the daughter of Nicholas and Odelia (Marx) Stoffel. Harriet graduated from Kewaskum High School in 1945. She worked at Regal Ware in Kewaskum for several years after graduation. On May 29, 1948 she married John G. Stellpflug at Holy Trinity Church in Kewaskum. He preceded her in death on July 25, 2012 after 64 years of marriage. While raising their family of seven children, Harriet and John worked together in the businesses they owned. From the time of their marriage until 1963, they owned Stellpflug's Finer Meats in Kewaskum, a business that had been in John's family since 1879. In 1963 they sold the market, moved to New Holstein and opened Stell's Super Valu. Harriet did the daily bookkeeping and accounting for the business, continuing even after John's retirement in 1989. Harriet enjoyed boating with John and the family and was a member of the Pioneer Yacht Club in Oshkosh for many years. They also enjoyed traveling together and went on several cruises and other trips, both in the U.S. and abroad. She was an avid reader, was a frequent library patron and participated in the local book club. She loved a good game of Scrabble. Harriet cared deeply about her family and delighted in the accomplishments of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She had a generous spirit and made others feel welcome in her home. She was a great listener, always ready to hear what someone wanted to share about their life or to learn something new about the world. Through example, she taught her children and grandchildren to work hard, to be kind and generous with others, to have a sense of humor, to deal with painful loss and to cherish family. She was the heart of our family.
