Harriet Dixon, 98, passed away on September 28, 2016. Shet was born June 21, 1918 to John and Marie Stove, in Roche Harbor, Washington. She was the third of four sisters. The family moved to Bellingham when she was 6. Her father died one year later. Her mother raised her girls alone until her remarriage to Thomas (Mitchell) Richardson. Harriet became very fond of her step father, and loved him dearly until his passing. She graduated from Whatcom High School in 1937. She attended Bellingham Business College before her marriage to Don Dixon in 1938 at the age of 20. Harriet and Don had 3 children, Donna, Ron and Jim (who came 15 years after Donna.) Harriet was a full time mother, who dedicated herself to the care of her family until the two oldest kids had left home and Jim began junior high. Then, in 1967, she started working at the Whatcom County Infirmary, later NorBell Nursing home. She worked at several jobs until becoming activity director. She held that position for over 20 years, and then worked part time into her 70s. After retiring, she dedicated herself to volunteering. She worked for several charitable organizations, including serving meals at Maple Alley until she was 93. In 2013, Harriet moved in with her son, Jim and daughter-in-law Caroline, where she continued to use her artistic talents and skills as a sewer and crafter to make dolls for charitable causes. Ending with a series of dolls for the Skookum House that she was still working on until the day of her passing. She was a member of the Sunset Club, Whatcom County's oldest women's group for over 65 years. She is proceeded in death by her husband Don and son Ron, and is survived by: Daughter Donna Rucker, grandson Mike Rucker, wife Monica, great grandchildren Brian and Brandon, and great great granddaughter Ariana. Granddaughter Lynda (Rucker) Hicks, husband Audey, great grandchildren Courtney, Kaylee and Andrew. Grandson Dan Rucker, wife Jen, great grandchildren Owen, Ben and Abby. Granddaughter (Ron's daughter) Cheri (Dixon) Kimbley, husband Levi, and great grandson Jeremy. Son Jim and his wife Caroline. A memorial service will be held Wednesday, October 19 at 1:00, at Cornwall Church, 4518 Northwest Dr., Bellingham. Memorials can be made to Maple Alley or Cornwall Church. Final resting place will be Woodlawn Cemetery.
