In memory of
Harriet Armstrong
Harriet "Bertie" Armstrong 1923 – 2016 If everyone in the world were a little more like Bertie the world would be a better place. Harriet (better known as Bertie) Armstrong, passed away in her sleep with her devoted family by her side on Friday, October 7th, 2016 at the age of 93. She was born in Oakdale, California to Harry and Hazel Greening. She had two sisters, Margaret and Mildred and three brothers, Jack, Robert and Donald. Near the end of WWII and after high school, Bertie met the man of her dreams, Dennis Armstrong, at a dance in Tuolumne. After their marriage, his military career took them to various Navy bases throughout the United States. They settled in Modesto, California and started their family. She was not only a devoted wife, but also a very active homemaker. She stayed busy with their four children, their cattle ranch and church. She loved to entertain guests at their home and always had something cooking on the stove; guests never left hungry. She mastered the art of cooking a delicious home cooked meal while visiting with her guests and making them always feel at home. Bertie was always gracious, complimentary and never had anything unkind to say. Her family and friends were her world. She was known as one of the best bridge players in Oakdale. She belonged to various bridge groups, some for as long as 50 years. She also enjoyed playing cards with her family and friends. Besides cooking and her family and friends, flowers brought her so much happiness. Despite her eyesight failing her, she still managed to find beauty in everything. She also loved the San Francisco Giants. Her last day with us was spent listening to the Giants play the Mets. Bertie was preceded in death by her parents Harry and Hazel Greening, siblings Margaret, Mildred, Jack, Robert and Donald, her husband Dennis Armstrong, her son Bill Armstrong, and son-in-law Silvio Rossini. Bertie's memory will live on through her beloved family: daughters Jane Rossini and Jacque Armstrong, and son Scott (Lori) Armstrong. She was known as gram, grandma and Nona to her grandchildren: Michael (Mari) Rossini, Patrick Armstrong, Paige Armstrong, Brooke Armstrong, Kelli Armstrong, along with Dominic and Taylor Rossini and Ashleigh Weeda. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews that have a special place in her heart. She will be truly missed by so many people whose lives were enriched by her hospitality, graciousness, beauty and kindness. There will be a visitation on Tuesday, October 18 at the Oakdale Memorial Chapel from 4:00-6:00pm with a rosary following after. Graveside service will be held at St. Louis Catholic Church in La Grange, California on Wednesday, October 19 at 10:00am. A celebration of life will be held at Oakdale Golf and Country Club at 12:30pm after the graveside service. Remembrances may be made in Bertie's memory to the UAMS Vascular Anomalies Research Foundation that helped save granddaughter's (Paige Armstrong) life (address: 4301 W. Markham St., Slot 543, UAMS. Little Rock, Arkansas 72205), Community Hospice or your favorite charity.    www.cvobituaries.com ... Show More
