ROBERTS, Harland Ernest, 88, of North Berwick, Maine, and formerly of Concord, N.H., passed away on Monday, Feb. 13, 2017 following a period of declining heath. Harland was born April 28, 1928 in North Berwick, Maine, to Ernest and Emma (Nelson) Roberts. He attended local schools and graduated from the University of Maine. He served his country as a decorated U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, and subsequently spent his entire civil engineering career with the NH Department of Transportation, retiring as Deputy Commissioner. Returning to his ancestral farmstead in North Berwick upon retirement, Harland was active in town affairs and served on its Board of Selectmen for 17 years. He was also a generous supporter of the North Berwick Historical Society, the North Berwick Library and the Great Works Regional Land Trust. Harland is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, the former Stella M. Gagne. He leaves a son, Stephen (Paula) Roberts of Concord, N.H.; daughter, Susan (Kenneth) Craigue of Concord, N.H.; and daughter, Martha Roberts (Merrell Clarke) of Springvale, Maine; as well as 12 grandchildren and numerous great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by sisters Nelda Roberts and Geneva Hall, step-mother Lucy (Kezar) Roberts and step-sister Barbara Day. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Harland's name to the Great Works Regional Land Trust, 610 Main Street, Ogunquit, Maine 03907. Johnson Funeral Home in North Berwick is assisting the family. Visiting hours will be on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017 from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m..
