Gwendolyn R. Fritsch
Gwendolyn R. Fritsch, 86, of Rock Falls, died unexpectedly, Saturday, October 15, 2016 in Sterling with her daughter Connie and Son in law Tom at her side.
Born November 5, 1929 in Hamilton Township, she was a daughter of Charles L. and Ethel Eilene (Renner) Fritz, and was raised by her grandparents, Glenn and Ethel Renner. On August 3, 1947 she was married to Conrad "Connie" Schmidt and later married Elden "Audy" Fritsch on June 27, 1993. Audy preceded her in death in 2012.
She was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rock Falls and was very active in various church activities including Bible Study, Let's Feed the Children and loved serving the funeral luncheons and dining out after church with her friends. Gwen and Connie owned and operated the Shore Acres Marina for many years and she was an avid boater and snowmobiler. She loved being a mother including room mother, and Girl Scout Leader. In her free time, she enjoyed flower gardening, sewing, and cake decorating. Friday nights were spent dancing with Audy.
Those left to honor her memory include her daughter, Connie (Tom) Gowan of Davenport, IA; step sons, Gregg Fritsch of Edwardsville and Randy (Mary) Fritsch of Rock Falls; grandchildren, Alex Venema, Bria Fritsch, Ryan (Brianna) Fritsch and Clint Fritsch; and several nieces and nephews. She also was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, a brother Charles Fritz and her grandparents Glenn and Ethel by whom she was raised.
Visitation will be from 10-11 AM Wednesday at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Rock Falls. The funeral will follow at 11 AM in the church with Pastor Vicki Sauter officiating. Burial will be at 2 PM Wednesday in Walnut Cemetery in Walnut. A memorial has been established in her memory. Arrangements are under the care of McDonald Funeral Home in Rock Falls.
