Hadler, Gretchen Louise 7/31/1926 - 9/28/2016 Ann Arbor Gretchen L. (Geigenmueller) Hadler, 90, passed away Wednesday, September 28, 2016. She was born July 31, 1926 to Paul W. and Katherine (Rentschler) Geigenmueller in Monroe, MI. She graduated from Monroe High School in 1944 and the University of Michigan in 1948, returning to earn a Teaching Certificate in 1949. She was employed at the University of Michigan Business School until leaving for Washington DC where she worked for the Federal Reserve Board. Returning to the Midwest, she worked for General Motors Styling Section until her marriage to her best friend, Richard A. Hadler in June of 1954. They have two sons together, Richard Paul (Chip) and Bruce Bradley Hadler. She was a Mother first and an active volunteer when time permitted. She was a past president of the Waterman Group of University of Michigan Alumnae, Board Chair of her Sorority, Chi Omega for years, was an active member of the Board of Henderson House at the University of Michigan, and also the Ann Arbor Thrift Shop as a merchandiser and Group G of PEO as Treasurer and Secretary. She played tennis for some years at Liberty Racquet Club and golf at Barton Hills Country Club and the University of Michigan. She also supported the Women's City Club and her friendly bridge group of eight. She was a founding member of Peace Lutheran Church whose property now is Peace Neighborhood Center on Maple Road in Ann Arbor. Gretchen's beloved husband, Richard (Rick) Hadler, with whom she shared 62 years of marriage, passed October 11, 2016. She is survived by her sons, Chip Hadler and Bruce (Susan) Hadler; granddaughters Jaclyn Hadler of Ann Arbor and Carrie (Eugene) Booher of New Orleans, and a great grandson, Henry Booher. The girls were the lights of her life and she followed their activities throughout their school years. She will be best remembered as a loyal friend to all who knew her and a baker to her granddaughters. Cooking with them was special recreation. Gretchen and Rick supported a host of Ann Arbor charitable organizations including the Ann Arbor Area Foundation, the Summer Art Festival, the Michigan Theater, the Food Gatherers, and the United Way. A joint memorial visitation will be held to honor both Gretchen and Ricks' lives on Friday, November 11, 2016, at the Nie Family Funeral Home, 3767 W. Liberty Rd., Ann Arbor, MI, from 4:00 pm 7:00 pm. A dual memorial service will take place the following day, Saturday, November 12, 2016, at 11:00 am at the funeral home.
