GRACE O. MARTIN
GRACE O. MARTIN Green Valley Grace Odveig Martin of Green Valley, Arizona, died Sunday the 1st of January 2017 at Carondelet Saint Mary's Hospital in Tucson, Arizona. Born in Madison, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Otto Ivar Ronningen and Grace Olive Ronningen and sister of Johan Olden Ronningen, Otto Vik Ronningen, and Thoralf Isaac Ronningen. She married Ethelbert Cowley Martin June 6, 1941, in Ames, Iowa. Grace graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in domestic arts. She taught interior design and domestic arts at the Universities of Manitoba, Canada; Nnsukka, Nigeria; and Michigan State University. Recognized as one of the top hand weavers in the country, she belonged to Weavers and Spinners Guilds in Canada, Michigan, New York, Maryland and Arizona. She authored the book "Approaching Design Through Nature: The Quiet Joy" by Viking Press in 1976. She was a world traveler, enthusiastic mountain hiker and swimmer, a dress designer, fashion model, national award-winning poet, quilter, sculptor, writer and watercolor artist. She was a member of three honorary societies Delta Phi Delta, Phi Upsilon Omicron, and Chi Delta Phi. Known to her friends as "Ronny," she enjoyed cooking and formal dining. She was a resident of Silver Springs Retirement Center, Green Valley, Arizona, since 2000. She is survived by her daughters Margaret Helen Trysil, Lois Jane Martin-Orr (Bruce), and son Erik John Martin (Judy); grandchildren Sean and Christopher Flanagan; Nicholas Thor Martin; Elisa and Cynthia Orr; and great grandchildren Iyla Flanagan, Piper Rose Martin and Jack Odin Martin.
