Grace L. Landry 1926—2017 Grace L. Landry, 91, of Beloit, WI, died Tuesday, April 18, 2017, in Fair Oaks Health Care Center, South Beloit, IL. She was born January 23, 1926, in Phillips County, KS, the daughter of Bert and Ethel (Hebrew) Helmer. Grace was a 1944 graduate of Sheboygan Falls High School, Sheboygan Falls, WI. She attended Sheboygan County Teachers Training School in 1946. Grace then graduated in 1953 from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Education. She married Clarence J. Landry on December 30, 1954, in St. Charles Catholic Church, Lena, WI. Grace was employed as a teacher by Sheboygan County, Manitowoc and Beloit School Systems, retiring in February 1988. She was a member of Combat Blindness Foundation and National Education Association. Grace enjoyed her home, shopping, spending time with her granddaughters, watching the Olympic sporting events and figure skating, and collecting over 100 Santa Clauses. She was known for her famous ham and cherry sauce. Survivors include her husband, Clarence Landry of Beloit, WI; daughter, Alicia Anne (Graham Yoshi) Landry-Uemura of Arcata, CA; grandchildren, Laurie Aiko (P.J.) Lynch, Margaret Michiko (Robert) Sataua, Katherine Kiyoko Uemura, Emilie Masako (Matt Nelson) Uemura and Elizabeth Uta Uemura, all of Arcata, CA; great-granddaughter, Josephine Madison Mae Lynch; sister, Ruth Lammers of Hingham, WI; brother, Howard Lyle Helmer of West Virginia; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was predeceased by her parents; sisters and brothers, Kay Helmer, Carl Helmer, Harold Helmer, Anna May Helmer, Lettie Houwers, Gwendolyn Schueffner, Albert Helmer, and John Keith Helmer; two nieces and one nephew. Funeral service for Grace will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2017, in the Daley Murphy Wisch & Associates Funeral Home and Crematorium, 2355 Cranston Road, Beloit, WI. Burial will be in Mt. Thabor Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. Monday until the time of service in the funeral home.
