Grace M. Gillett
Grace Marie Gillett Born: August 27, 1930 Died: January 8, 2017 Grace Marie (Custin) Gillett, age 86, passed away unexpectedly in her home on January 8, 2017. She was born on August 27, 1930, in Lamar, Missouri, to Perry and Opal (Lyons) Custin. Grace and Carl, the love of her life, began planning their family and lives in Plano, IL on April 4, 1951. There the first of her most meaningful legacies, proudest moments, and loved daughters were born. A gracious hostess, Grace opened her home to all. She enjoyed her 40 plus years as a member of the "VPI's," a wonderful group of friends she shared every Friday night with playing cards, enjoying dinners, laughing, and bragging about her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. To Grace, her family went beyond blood. Grace also loved playing bridge with friends from Cedardale and FVOA. Her other passions included her love for her flowers, baking cookies with her granddaughters, teaching all her grandchildren how to swim, playing games with her great grandchildren, and whooping everyone in bags and being the "Euchre" queen. Her career direction took from Secretary to the President of the Plano Community Bank, to a realtor in Neederland, Texas, back to Sandwich, IL, where her talented hands welded a jigsaw and sander and she created the most beautiful Christmas Angels. The heartbeat of her family, devoted wife and caregiver, loving mother and grandmother, is survived by her husband, Carl, of 66 years; her daughters, Deborah (Martin) Kunkel, Krista (Ron) Friedmann, Karla (Tod) Duy, Kathleen (Jim) Lyons; as well as her beautiful grandchildren, Shawn (Choe), Carly, Brandon (Jennifer), Dustin (Nicole), Ronnie, (Teri), Rebecca (Greg), Tom (Heidi), Elliott (Kristin), Alex, Austin, Blake (Natalie), James (Elise Angela), Jeb (Danielle). Her numerous great grandchildren, Max, Kayla, Kristin, Kenzie, Kiley, Logan, Harper, Hannah, Houstin, Tommy D., Nicholas, Andrew, Irelynn, Eli, Robert, Tess, Josie, Jordy, Victoria and Noah; a very special Aunt Ruth and cousins. Her parents, Perry and Opal Custin; and a sister, Kathryn Sims; and a brother in infancy, preceded her in death. A visitation will be held from 3:00 pm until 6:00pm on Thursday, January 12, 2017, at Larson-Nelson Funeral Home, 1010 W South Street, Plano, IL. Interment will be private. A private family service will be held following the visitation. In lieu of flowers all donations may be forwarded to FVOA, in Sandwich, IL. Mom, kindness is the language you spoke, devotion you lived lovingly to your family, and the most meaningful legacies can't be measured by gifts or money, but by love alone. We love you and will miss you forever mom, GG. Arrangements by Nelson Funeral Homes & Crematory, (630)552-7211 or www.NelsonFuneralHomes.com .
