Glover Wayne Byford, 82, of Mineola, passed away in his home surrounded by his family on October 9, 2016. GW, also known as Salty or The Phone Man, was born March 2, 1934, in Grand Saline to Jess and Ivor Byford. He graduated from Grand Saline High School in 1952. On June 13, 1953, he married Betty Alexander and together they had one child. GW retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone/AT&T in 1999 after 47 years of service; a career he dearly loved. Mr. Byford is survived by his wife, Betty, of 63 years; daughter, Cheryl and son-in-law Danny Oliver, of Greenville; grandson Chris and wife Marie and great-granddaughter Charlotte Oliver, of Rockwall; grandson, Tim and wife Andrea, great-granddaughter Clara and great-grandson Weston Oliver, of Caddo Mills. He is also survived by two brothers, three sisters and numerous nieces and nephews spanning three generations. Preceding him in death are his parents, four brothers and two sisters. A celebration of his life is planned for October 29, 2016, from 1-4 p.m. at the Golden Homestead in Golden.
