She worked for the City of New Orleans Health Department, where she ran well-baby clinics. At the age of 70, she enrolled at UNO and took courses in literature, art, and history, as well as a summer class at Oxford University in England. Not a fan of retirement, she worked for UNO Health Services until the age of 82, when Katrina devastated the city. She relocated to Jefferson, Texas, where she lived with her son, Ted. After her sons restored a 100-year-old farmhouse in Sunny Hill, Gloria returned to Louisiana. She was a well-known birder in the New Orleans area and a world traveler. Her binoculars were always within reach. She sought out birds in Alaska; Churchill, Canada; Cameron, Louisiana; the Pacific Northwest; the Everglades; Big Bend, Texas; the Turks and Caicos Islands; and in her own back yard. She was a lifelong learner, a lover of literature and music. But, mostly, she loved just being with her family. She passed way, surrounded by her family in her own home. Visitation at the Mt. Hermon United Methodist Church, from 10 a.m. until religious services at 11 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2017. Interment Roberts Cemetery, Kentwood.
