In memory of
Gladys Joyce Meredith Harmon
Gladys was born on September 27, 1928, to Wilbur Henry and Elsie May Cope Meredith, on the family farm 15 miles south of Meade, Kansas. She went to be with her Lord on October 13, 2016, and we rejoice in the grand reunion she is enjoying with her parents and her wonderful sisters that she loved dearly. She attended a country school at Pleasant Valley, south of Meade, and graduated from Meade High School in 1946. She then attended Cain Powell Business College in Dodge City, Kansas. She was employed by First National Bank in Dodge City, and then as a stenographer at Van Riper, Williams and Larsen, Attorneys at Law. Gladys married the love of her life, Winferd Roy Harmon on August 15, 1948, at the Meade Methodist Church. She attended First Baptist Church in Dodge City and was very involved in the American Baptist Women's Association. She served the Lord by serving others in many unselfish ways. She cooked countless meals, homemade bread, and loved to entertain in her home. She loved to farm her inherited land until the day she passed. She played the piano and accordion, she loved to sew, garden, cook, craft, garage sale, and she always enjoyed a good bargain! After 56 years in Dodge City, they moved to Derby, Kansas in 2004. Gladys was very active in the Derby Senior Center and attended Crosswinds Community Church. To this union were born four children: Joyce Elaine Moore, Livermore, California; Leesa Darlene Mott (Craig), Kiowa, Kansas; Meredith Lee Harmon (Debbie), Omaha, Nebraska; Beth Ann McKee (Ray), Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Gladys was blessed with an abundance of wonderful grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and has always been active in their lives. She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilbur and Elsie; two sisters, Lucille Meredith Wohlford and Darlene Meredith Schiffner; and infant granddaughter, Breanna Lynn McKee. She is survived by her husband, Winferd; her brother, Otis Meredith (Carolyn), Meade, Kansas; her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A private family service has been held. Memorials have been established with Gladys Harmon Memorial Fund for the care of Winferd Harmon c/o Crosswinds Community Church, 208 N. Georgie, Derby, KS 67037 or the Derby Senior Center, 611 N. Mulberry Rd, Derby, KS 67037. We love her and will miss her greatly; there is no one quite like Gladys Harmon!
