Gertrude Irmgard Pickett died October 9, 2016, at the Burlington Home Place Memory Care facility in Burlington, Washington at the age of 89 from Alzheimer's disease. She was born February 22, 1927 in Iserlohn, Germany to Eric Albert Koester and Irmgard Petzel Koester. She had three brothers: Eric, Gerhardt and Rudolph. In 1949, she immigrated to the US with her family, settling in Los Angeles. She married Theodore Siebert in 1952 and had two sons, Steven (1953) and Peter in (1956). Widowed in 1968, she moved with her sons from Lancaster, CA to Santa Barbara where her parents had relocated. In 1973, she married Leonard Pickett and they spent 23 years building up his electrical supply company and her real estate holdings until his death in 1996. In 2008, she began living with her son Steven and moved with him and his family to Bellingham, Washington in 2011. She hosted memorable holiday celebrations for her children and grandchildren as well as Leonard's children and grandchildren at their home in Hope Ranch. You could get the recipe?but it was never exactly how she made it! She was an amazing cook who annually sent everyone off with Christmas cookies. She loved to knit, shop and travel. She and Leonard took frequent trips to far off places. In addition to her culinary skills and knitting talent, she was known for her great sense of humor. She was a caring mother to her children and Leonard's children alike and will be missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her brother, Dr. Rudolph Koester, of Knoxville Tennessee; son, Peter Siebert, of Oak View, California; Peter's children, Nicholas and Michael Siebert; Steven's widow, Corliss Siebert; and Steven's children, Grace Cannon of British Columbia and Timothy Siebert of Washington. A time of viewing will be held at Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapel on October 21, 2016 from 9am to 12pm. A graveside ceremony will be held October 21, 2016 at 1pm at Santa Barbara Cemetery.
