Gerald "Jerry" Patterson Norfolk - Gerald "Jerry" Louis Patterson passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017 in Norfolk. Jerry was born in High Point, NC to the late George and Gertrude Patterson. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in the 101st Airborne Division. He went on to retire from the Civil Service as a crane operator primarily working at Norfolk Naval Base. After retirement, Jerry devoted his remaining years selflessly caring for his wife who suffers from advanced Alzheimer's Disease. Affectionately referred to as Pop, his greatest joy was spending time with his family. He adored his grandchildren and great grandson. He took great pleasure in socializing with longtime friends over a good breakfast and enjoyed the company and support of his neighbors. He is survived by his wife of 54 years Mary Patterson; daughter Ginney Freeman and husband Keith of Chesapeake; daughter Nancy Smith and husband Jeff of Norfolk; Grandchildren Colby Umagat and husband Ben, Marissa Freeman, and Dylan Freeman; Great Grandson Hendrix Umagat; and sister Margaret Keefe. A special thank you to all of Jerry's friends and neighbors for the care and support they provided to him and for the precious time spent with him over the years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be offered to the Alzheimer's Association.
