July 3, 1944 – October 1, 2017 Gerald Allen Nygaard passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday morning, October 1, 2017, at his home in Mountlake Terrace, Washington. He was born July 3, 1944, in Pierre South Dakota to Arnold Henry and Doris Nygaard. The family moved to Seattle in 1952 where he attended school and graduated from Ballard High School in 1962. He met Ann Marie Boyett in 1967. They were married on June 1, 1968, and to that union two children were born, Andrea and Arnold "Arne". He was a Journeyman Boat Builder most of his adult life at Marco Seattle and worked at various boatyards in the area. He was also an avid Scouter, Hunter and Fisherman and participated in Mountain Man Rendezvous events and muzzleloader shooting competitions. Gerald leaves his wife Annie, daughter, Andrea, Dave Alvarez (Andrea's partner) and his beloved companion, Bella to mourn his passing. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister, Karen Louise Nygaard in 1963, Nola Nygaard in 2004 and his son, Arne in 2004. He is survived by his sisters, Grace Nygaard, Arna Shears (Raymond), Crystal Merrill and brother, Kristian Nygaard. He has numerous nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and many friends. Memorial Services will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 22015 – 48th Ave. W. Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043 on Saturday, October 21,2017, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. There will be an additional gathering for friends and family at the Mountlake Terrace Senior Center, 23000 Lakeview Drive, Mountlake Terrace, WA 98043 from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers the family is asking to make donations in his memory to the American Diabetes Association or Boy Scouts of America.
