In memory of
Gerald "Jerry" Greenfield
Greenfield Gerald "Jerry" Greenfield, beloved husband, loving father and grandfather, and talented real estate attorney, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at Ames Family Hospice with his family by his side after more than ten years of bravely battling Parkinson's Disease. Jerry was born on September 9, 1939 in Cohoes, New York and grew up in Schenectady. He earned his B.A. Degree from Union College in 1961 where he graduated in the top 10 percent of his class. Jerry continued to distinguish himself academically at Albany Law School where he was a member of the Albany Law Review Editorial Board; he graduated in 1964 with a J.D. Degree, again in the upper 10 percent of his class. As a successful real estate attorney, Jerry handled complex commercial real estate and financial transactions while a Partner at the law firm of Jenner & Block. Subsequently, Jerry served as Assistant General Counsel to Schottenstein Stores Corporation and later as Vice President and General Counsel to Schottenstein Property Group where he was responsible for property acquisitions and sales, shopping center and industrial building development, leasing, construction, and financing. Jerry was a featured speaker on the topics of shopping center leases and loan transactions for the International Council of Shopping Centers and other professional organizations and authored articles on similar topics for the Albany Law Review and Continuing Legal Education publications. Jerry retired from his position at Schottenstein in 2009. An avid baseball fan since his early days of visiting Ebbets field with his dad, until the day Jerry passed away he could tell you the starting line up for the World Series champion 1955 Brooklyn Dodgers. Otherwise, he lived life to the fullest with his family and was often happiest when he was with them hiking and skiing in the mountains; swimming and boating in oceans and lakes; biking park trails; attending the great symphony orchestras, museums, and theaters in Cleveland, Chicago, and New York; and sharing countless high and low brow meals around tables at home and out. Jerry was a devoted family man who cherished his family above all else. He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Karon Scheinman Greenfield; daughter, Lisa Greenfield Pearl and son-in-law, Jonathan Pearl; son, Brian Greenfield and daughter-in-law, Aimee Greenfield; brother and sister-in-law, Harvey and Eileen Greenfield; sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Lynn and Stephen Green; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Carl and Diane Scheinman.
