In memory of
George Wright
George Andrew Wright Evansville, IN George Andrew Wright, 90, of Evansville was surrounded by family when he passed away at 7:40 pm, Tuesday, February 14, 2017 at Deaconess Gateway Hospital. George was born April 8, 1926 in Detroit, Michigan, the 2nd child of 3 to the late Robert Blackman and Helen Bishop Wright. His father worked for General Motors before purchasing a dealership of his own, Wright Motors, in downtown Evansville in 1941. George graduated from Bosse High School and attended one year at Purdue University until he enlisted in the United States Navy to serve our country during WWII. After the war, George attended Indiana University and graduated in 1949. He married Shirley Kremp that same year, and soon after, George assumed operations of Wright Motors. George was past president of Evansville Auto Dealers Association and a member of Evansville Country Club and the Kennel Club and was a founding member of the Petroleum Club. He also served on the Board of National City Bank for more than 30 years. George was a long-time advocate for the Boy Scouts, and had a strong love of music, particularly jazz. George and Shirley enjoyed many summers boating with family at their lake homes in Big Rapids, Michigan and at Kentucky Lake. George was known for his quick wit and love of socializing. He was a lifelong learner who enjoyed "knowing things"; in his later years, he read an entire encyclopedia set. Although George was extremely active in his community and business, family was still the most important part of his life. He will be deeply missed by his family and many friends. He is survived by children, Ann Tornatta (Troy), Robert (Marianna), Joe (Susan), and Chris (Penny); his devoted companion, Sandra Conner; sister, Gail Whitehead (Gene); 12 grandchildren, Robert and Carson Stegall, Tatum and Tucker Tornatta, Morgan and Brodie, J.T., George Andrew V, Emily Oglesby and Mason, Matthew and John, and 6 great-grandchildren.
