George Alexander Simpson George Alexander Simpson, age 81, of Hilton Head, SC and formerly of Silver Spring and Rockville, MD died Sunday, February 12, 2017 at Brookdale, Hilton Head Court after a long battle with Alzheimer's Disease. Mr. Simpson was born on September 29, 1935 in Aberdeen, Scotland, the eldest son of the late John Simpson and Doris Weymouth Simpson. He earned a BA degree in Electrical Engineering from Robert Gordon's Technical College in Aberdeen, Scotland, prior to being called to National Service in the R.E.M.E. (Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineers) branch of the British army. Upon his release from the army in 1960, after having completed his two years National Service as a leading Artisan Sergeant teaching Radar Operations in the south of England, George joined Racal Electronics in Bracknell, England. In 1965, with Resident Visa in hand, Mr. Simpson and his family emigrated to the United States where he helped establish a Racal facility in Silver Spring, MD. After the five year required waiting period, George and his family proudly became American citizens. While working for Racal Communications, USA; he earned a degree in Business. In 1976 he joined The Mitre Corporation of McLean, VA. A not-for-profit company, providing technical support for our military at home and abroad. In 1984 he earned a Master's degree in Telecommunications from George Washington University. In 1993 after working for The Mitre Corporation for 17 years he retired with his wife Margaret (Marge) to Hilton Head, SC. to enjoy golf, sunshine and travel. He served as a volunteer judge for the Beaufort County Schools Science Fairs. He also served on the Moss Creek Board of Directors from January 1998 through December 0f 2000. Among his hobbies he enjoyed doing jigsaw puzzles, playing golf and watching Manchester United (his favorite soccer team) play. He also enjoyed the antics of Calli their beloved cat. He was very proud of his Scottish heritage and loved the extra attention he got when wearing his kilt. He will be sorely missed by his loving family and friends. He was of Roman Catholic faith and while living in Hilton Head was a member of St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. Mr. Simpson was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Lesley-Anne Simpson Akey and his brother, Robert Simpson. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Margaret Alexena Simpson; sons, Stephen J. Simpson (Myra) of Gaithersburg, MD; Paul M. Simpson (Kathy) of Texas City, TX; David A. Simpson (Michelle) of Las Vegas, NV; siblings, Evelyn McGill (William) of Liverpool, England; John Simpson (Sheila) of Falkirk, Scotland, Rosemary Simpson of Chapel Hill, NC; and Margaret Stuart of Ellon, Scotland; 8 grandchildren, Lauren Braggins (David) of Annapolis, MD; Jennifer Leonard (Michael) of Gaithersburg, MD; Krystal Simpson of Texas City, TX; Christine Simpson of Las Vegas, NV; Michelle Cunningham (Patrick) of Fort Knox, KY; Gavin Simpson of Las Vegas, NV; Aubrey Grimblot of Las Vegas, NV; Lauren Lyon of Las Vegas, NV; and 6 great grandchildren, Sean, Gabriel, Chloe, Quinn and Jacob, and Mackenzie, a niece and several nephews. The family would like to thank the staff of Memory Matters, the staff of Brookdale, Hilton Head Court, Right at Home, and Tidewater Hospice for taking such good care of him during his prolonged illness. Mr. Simpson's brain is being donated for research to the Brain Bank at MUSC in Charleston after which he will be cremated and interred in the Columbarium of St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Memory Matters, P.O Box 22330 Hilton Head SC 29925-2330 or to the Carroll A. Campbell, Jr. Neuropathology Laboratory, at MUSC for research. Saul's Funeral Home of Bluffton is assisting the family.
