GILLESPIE, ILLINOIS - George A. Lamparter, 78, of Gillespie, Illinois, died at 9:15 p.m. on Wednesday, October 12, 2016, at Hillsboro Rehab & Health Care, Hillsboro, Illinois. He was born January 22, 1938, in Alton, Illinois to Elroy C. Lamparter and Alva Marie (Graf). He married Dixie A. (Bryant) Lamparter on December 12, 1986 in Edwardsville, Illinois. He was a retired after having been a steel worker for Laclede Steel in Alton, Illinois for 37 years. He was a veteran of the US Navy after having been with the USS Yorktown CVA 10 Town Carrier. George was a member of the Masonic Lodge 214 AF and AM of Gillespie, Shriner's, American Legion, United Steel Workers Union, Meadowbrook Fire Department, and The Recruiter's, area baseball team from Alton. He is survived by his spouse, Dixie Lamparter of Gillespie; children, Brenda (Marvin) Hancock of Bethalto, Illinois, Tammy (Marvin) Beckham of Bethalto, Kevin (Erin) Lamparter of Highland, Illinois, Lonnie (Penney) Smith of Broughton, Illinois, Donnie Smith of Bunker Hill, Illinois; stepchildren, William (Marcy) Lehotz of Kansas City, Missouri, Lisa (Bob) Tucker of Gillespie; several grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and sibling, Charlene Keffer of Wilsonville, Illinois. George was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Richard Lamparter. Friends may call from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. memorial services on Sunday, Oct. 16, 2016, at Kravanya Funeral Home in Gillespie.Burial will be at Gillespie Cemetery, Gillespie.
