George J. Gialas BENSALEM, PA George J. Gialas, 93, of Bensalem, PA, passed away, Wednesday, Feb. 15, 2017. A viewing will be held Monday evening, Feb. 20, 2017, from 7 to 9 p.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1200 Klockner Rd., Trenton, NJ 08619. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at 12 noon at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, Trenton, NJ. Interment will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2017, at 2 p.m. at Washington Crossing National Cemetery at 830 Highland Rd., Newtown, PA. 18940. George was born April 10, 1923, in Stockdale, PA. He graduated from Charleroi High School. He graduated from California University in Pennsylvania, where he received a Bachelor of Science in Education. He was certified in mathematics and general industrial arts. He attended Temple University, where he earned a Master of Science in Education. He entered service in the United States Navy on June 29, 1944. He served on the USS ATR 84 in the Pacific Theatre during World War II. George was an industrial and graphic arts teacher at Abraham Lincoln High School in the School District of Philadelphia. He was an avid bowler and a member of many bowling leagues. He became a member of the American Hellenic Education Progressive Association in 1956. He was a past District Governor and held every office on the Power District 4 lodge. His last years were as District Historian. George also achieved the honor of becoming a 32nd degree Mason. It was at an AHEPA district convention where he met his lovely wife of 54 years, the former Mary P. Pappas of Reading, PA. They married on Nov. 18, 1962. He enjoyed working around the yard, tinkering in the garage, and teaching his grandchildren many life lessons. George is survived by his wife, Mary (Pappas); his daughter, Vikki Aristoklis, and two grandchildren, Michael and Maria, and also, one niece and two nephews.
