In memory of
Genevieve "Jeannie" STEINHORN
STEINHORN, Genevieve "Jeannie" 96, of St. Petersburg, passed away March 13, 2017 at Menorah Manor. Jeannie was born in Baltimore, MD and graduated from Towson State in Baltimore. She taught for many years, and earned recognition in the local newspaper for her work in teaching children who were home- or hospital-bound. After winning a prize on a local TV show, she advanced to be a finalist on the quiz show "Password" in New York City, and went home victorious. She and Moe moved to St. Petersburg in 1979, and she spent many hours as a volunteer, first at Edward White Hospital, and later at Menorah Manor, where she delighted in helping out in the memory unit. Jeannie was predeceased by her beloved husband, Morris "Moe" Steinhorn; her son, Dr. Bruce Kent; and by her parents, Max and Sarah Berman. She is survived by her loving family: her daughter, Sue (Dr. Brad) Fishalow; daughter-in-law, Joyce Kent Ostrander; sister, Shirley Rosenzweig; stepson, Jeffrey (Brigitte) Steinhorn; and stepdaughter, Nansy Steinhorn-Galloway (Jack). She also leaves behind six beloved grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, as well as 12 adored great-grandchildren, with two more expected soon. She held dear her nieces, Abby (Allan) Richmond and Mindy Rosenzweig, and her close friends Sara and Gilbert Wegad. Sue and Brad would like to thank so many for the wonderful care Jeannie received at Menorah, especially from the loving and supportive nursing staff who knew her so well, and from Gwen Kaldenberg, the director of her unit. Special blessings to her physicians, Drs. Bridgid Levoir, Fred Guerrier, and Shacara Wilson, who made sure that Jeannie received the best that medical science could provide. Burial services were held Friday, March 17, at United Hebrew Cemetery in Baltimore, Maryland. A remembrance service will be held at 3 pm on Sunday, April 23, at the David C. Gross Funeral Home in St. Petersburg. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Jeannie's memory to the Bresler Alzheimer's Disease & Related Disorders Program at Menorah Manor, or your favorite animal shelter.
