Mrs. Genevieve Irene Lynch
Genevieve Irene (McWeeney) Lynch, 91, of Wilmington, Delaware died at home on October 13, 2016.
Genevieve was survived by four children: Matthew J. Lynch, Jr. (Nancy) of Wilmington, Marianne White (Bennett) of Wilmington, Paul Lynch of Ft. Myers, Florida, and Kathleen Skibicki (David) of Wilmington. She was also survived by nine grandchildren: Lyn White, Mamie Voight, Kathleen Davis, Regina Lynch, Hope, Matthew, Erin, Shannon, and Katrina Skibicki and five great-grandchildren. Genevieve is survived by one sister, Evelyn Rush of Narragansett, Rhode Island.
Genevieve is predeceased by her loving husband of 66 years, Matthew J. Lynch, Sr., and her sister Hope Bracken of Oklahoma.
Mrs. Lynch, a native of Rhode Island, was raised in Providence. She graduated from Tyler Elementary School and St. Xavier Academy and was in the first graduation class of Johnson and Wales Business School. She then worked for the Narragansett Electric Company until her marriage in 1950.
Genevieve and her new husband made their first home in Waukegan, Illinois. They became active members in St. Anastasia parish and were in the initial group that started CFM. The Christian Family Movement was dedicated to strengthening faith and helping the underprivileged.
In 1961, she and her husband moved to Wilmington, DE where they became active members of Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish.
Since retirement in 1986, the couple wintered in Florida and enjoyed watching spring training baseball games. In particular, Mrs. Lynch loved watching the Red Sox.
In 1986, she and her husband began summering in Avalon, New Jersey. She cherished her beloved beach house and the time she spent there entertaining her children and grandchildren on weekends, walking the beach, and shopping in Stone Harbor.
Funeral Services will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 11:00 am, preceded by visitation at 10:00 am at the church. Her entombment will be held immediately after the Mass at Cathedral Cemetery, 2400 Lancaster Avenue, Wilmington, Delaware.
