August 17, 1928 - April 15, 2017 OKLAHOMA CITY Surrounded by her family, Genell R. Simon went peacefully to Heaven on Saturday, April 15, 2017. She was born in McKinney, Texas on August 17, 1928, to William T. and Gladys Shields. As a young child, Genell moved to Oklahoma City and later attended Putnam City High School; there she was an honor student and a leader, graduating in 1946. After World War II, Genell married Junior Simon and was a dedicated wife and life partner. Their 36-year marriage was often described as a love story. Genell and Junior devoted themselves fully to their children, Dennis and Lisa, who were the joys of their lives. After Junior passed, Genell carried on the family business, Junior's Supper Club for 21 years. She met and served many people and built friendships which she treasured. She was kind-hearted, generous, and had a great sense of humor. She adored her grandchildren and gr. grandchildren and loved her time spent with them. Genell is preceded in death by her husband and her parents. She is survived by her son Dennis Simon and daughter Lisa Simon Lemons, both of Oklahoma City, grandchildren Dennis Simon II and Trevon Lemons, gr. grandchildren Hayden Lemons and Alexander Simon, and sister Deanna Owen. Her children have been her constant help, especially Lisa who didn't leave her side for the past two months. The family wishes to thank the staff at Baptist Village Skilled Nursing Center for their tender care and for the joy and the smiles they brought their precious Mom. Visitation will be Thursday, April 20th, from 8:00 am until 8:00 pm at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper; 6600 Broadway Extension, Okla. City, OK. Funeral services will be held on Friday, April 21st, 2:00pm in the Chapel at Hahn-Cook/Street & Draper Funeral Home, with interment to follow at Rose Hill Burial Park.
