Gene Bland Adams Mr. Gene Bland Adams, 75, passed into eternity with his Lord, Jesus Christ, surrounded by family on Monday, February 13th, 2017 at Vidant Inpatient Hospice House. A "Celebration of Life" service will be conducted Thursday at 11 AM at First Free Will Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. Keith Gardner and Rev. Ronnie Hobgood. Entombment will follow in Pinewood Memorial Park. Mr. Adams, son of the late James Carl and Sara Bland Adams, was born and lived his life in Pitt County. He was President of A & B Auto Service, Inc. of Greenville. He proudly served in the United States Navy onboard the USS Intrepid, CVS 11, during the Cuban Crisis and his ship picked up Scott Carpenter following the fourth space exploration in May of 1962. After his honorable discharge, he worked for the family business until 1970 at which time he moved to Cary to take a position with the Independent Garage Owners Association of North Carolina. Following his father's death, he returned to Greenville to work in the family business until his retirement in 2007. Gene was passionate about life and never met a stranger. If you spent time with him you always laughed. He loved family, his work (meeting people and fixing cars), NASCAR, football, grilling out, and especially fishing, water sports and life on the Pamlico river. He just loved living and enjoying life. He was a long time member of First Free Will Baptist Church and a former member of various civic organizations as well as a scout leader. He touched the lives of many young people thru his life's journey. In addition to his parents, Mr. Adams was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Michael Adams, Sr. and wife, Carol. He is survived by his: wife of 57 years, Faye Griffin Adams; daughter, Meloni Adams; son, Jason Adams and wife, Jennifer; and grandchildren, Brittany and Brock Adams, all of Greenville; and a number of special aunts, nieces, nephews, cousins, and sisters-in-law. The family will receive friends Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM at Wilkerson Funeral Home and at other times, the home.
