Gaylord W. Besemer
Besemer, Gaylord W. Gaylord W. Besemer, 87, of Locke, passed away Saturday, October 15, 2016 at home. Mr. Besemer was born January 13, 1929 in Ithaca, a son of the late Donald R. and Ruth A. (English) Besemer. A resident of Locke since 1960, Gaylord had been self employed in farming and had operated his own trucking business. Gaylord always enjoyed his daily stops for a cup of coffee at the area diners, where he would pick up on the local gossip. For the past 25 years he had been a winter resident of Ocala, Florida, where he continued having many good days with that same daily ritual. Throughout life, he was mechanically inclined and he enjoyed flying airplanes and riding motorcycles. Gaylord was a master craftsman in wood carving, particularly that of water fowl. He is survived by his son, Donald (Kathy) of Locke, two daughters, Cheryl Germain (Bruce) of Locke, and Kristie Besemer of Palmer, Alaska, six grandchildren: Joshua, Shanna, Bryan, Chelsea, Danielle, and Taylor; three great-grandchildren, a sister, Betty David of Ithaca, his friend and companion, Lorraine Groat, nieces, nephews, extended family, and many other dear friends, including Sylvia Cullen (and her late husband, Mike). Gaylord was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Joyce (VanOrder) Besemer in 2004, and by his twin brother, Cary. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday (Oct. 22), in East Lawn Cemetery, Ithaca. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of one's choice.
