Gayle Frances Patterfritz, 85, of Monroe passed away Sunday at IHM Senior Living Community. Friends may call from 2-8 p.m. Friday at Rupp Funeral Home, where Rev. Roy Southerland will share memories at 5 p.m. VFW Post 1138 Ladies Auxiliary service will be at 6 p.m. and a Rosary will be at 7 p.m. She will lie instate at 9 a.m. Saturday at St. John Church with Mass at 10 a.m. Rev. James Smalarz will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. Born in LaSalle, Michigan, she was the youngest of 7 children born to Lillian and Edward Larrow. Gayle graduated from St. Mary Academy in 1949. In 1950, she married Douglas Scheick. They had 8 children. He preceded her in death in 1966. In 1973, she married Gerald Adamczyk, gaining 4 stepchildren. He passed in 1987. She then married Gorland Patterfritz in 1990. He passed in 2003. Gayle loved the Lord and her family. She was an active volunteer in her church and community. Gayle volunteered at Karmanos Cancer Institute and Monroe Cancer Connection, where she was named Health Care Educator and Volunteer of the Year in 1999. She belonged to Council of Christian Women, RSVP and sang in choir at St. Joseph Church, Monroe. She was also a member of Comboni Ladies and a board member at St. Joseph Cemetery. She was a lifetime member of VFW's Ladies Auxiliary. She sang for Memorial Day services at Roselawn Memorial Park for 35 years and at St. Joseph Cemetery for 5 years. Gayle worked for MCOP and served on its advisory board. Gayle had a passion for singing and sang at numerous weddings and wakes starting at age 16. She is survived by her children, Karen (Don) Wolfe, Christine Scheick, Douglas (Cheree) Scheick, Philip (Patricia) Scheick, Joseph Scheick, Timothy Scheick, Margaret (Rick) Walker, Dennis (Donna) Adamczyk, Michelle (Joe) Hawkins, Ronald (Cheryl) Adamczyk and Margaret (Kenny) Martin, 23 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and her beloved sweetheart of 13 years, James Giarmo. Gayle was preceded in death by her mother in 1933, father in 1935 and Aunt Bessie who raised her from the age of 2; her three husbands; her daughter, Mary Grassel; brothers, Henry, Wilber and Lawrence Larrow; sisters, Glenna Santure, Dorothy McQuillen and Barbara Petee.
