In memory of
Gary E. Zinman
Gary E. Zinman, 80, passed away peacefully March 31. He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Stephanie; and his beloved children, Michelle, Tucson and Nicole of Los Angeles. He was preceded in death by his parents, Morris and Josephine Olbum Zinman. Gary was born in Butler, where he and his family owned and operated a number of retail clothing stores including the iconic, Jay Shoppe, for over 60 years. He was an active member in the Butler community and some highlights include being president of the Businessmen's Bureau; the Musical Theatre Guild, where he was instrumental in securing land for their permanent building; numerous offices within the Chamber of Commerce; treasurer and board member of B'nai Abraham and member of B'nai B'rith; and one dear to his heart, the Butler Lions Club. Upon retirement, Gary and his wife moved to Tucson, Ariz., a place he considered paradise. Gary was a graduate of Penn State University and a proud member of the Sigma Alpha Mu fraternity. He remained an ardent supporter of Penn State sports throughout his life and was an active member of his fraternity and PSU alumni groups. His love of sports carried over to his hometown teams as well, especially the Pittsburgh Steelers. Gary and his family attended almost every home game and were season ticket holders for well over 40 years. Gary loved traveling to destinations near and far; some of his favorite destinations included trips to Africa, China, Australia and Tahiti. He was a lover of the art of storytelling and each adventure made his stories richer. Gary could also be found at the theater or music hall catching a show or concert, one of his favorite past times. But above all, Gary was a wonderful husband, father, son and friend. To him, once a friend, always a friend. He was a person of strong convictions and passion for those he loved. He was a compassionate man with a big and kind heart. A true Mensch. He will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him and those who he held close in his heart. ZINMAN - Services for Gary E. Zinman, who died Friday, March 31, 2017, were conducted April 3 at the Evergreen Cemetery in Tucson, Ariz.
